Five Kingdoms

Today is June 05, soon to be celebrated the world over as International Chuck Norris Day. Make sure you check out all the ways you can pay homage to the greatest Ranger Texas ever produced.

There has been quite a bit of argument in Monkey Barn regarding Pirates. Wanting to do his part, Ajax steps up with the Best Pirate Movies of the Modern Era.

I've been telling you all for weeks that I have new projects to unveil, and I finally figured out who was stonewalling the project: a total ingrate who calls himself Hyperion. Once he was dealt with I ws able to push on.

What I want to tell you about today has actually been in the works for several months, and already has a nice group of members. However, there are so many new readers to the site, and I really didn't want to be exclusive and elitist on a Community Project.

Basically, I noticed last year that several stories I had written (and some that Carnivus had) all seemed to have a familiar ring to them. You could see how they all took place in the same general land, the same realm.

I began to call this place Five Kingdoms.

I got an idea to get together with a few like-minded people who were interested in telling stories. I have been trying to improve my fiction for some time now, and I know it works better when there are others trying to do the same thing. Perhaps some of you out there would love to be a storyteller, but the concept seems daunting. There is so much to do to get started; it can feel overwhelming.

It was this idea -- that there may be others like me out there -- that made me determined to make Five Kingdoms a reality.

What we're hoping to do is create a general geography of the world, and a few simple rules that will help us all to write and co-exist in this land without tripping over each other.

There's not much more to it than that. I don't want some legalistic structure that isn't any fun. I want people to be able to write any kind of story in the universe, whether it be a legend of the past, something from present day, maybe even the future, or just maybe, for those people who've always suspected that there is a shadow world that doesn't quite conform to the "rules" we all pretend to live by.

I have set up an initial website with a brief ouline of what we're hoping to do. Included is a quick questionnaire to see what you're interested if you would like to join us. I ask that anyone interested contact me by June 15.

Maybe you have always wanted to write, but never had the nerve. Maybe now is the time to try it out. To learn more, and find out if you have any magic within you, take a quick journey to Five Kingdoms.

You'll be glad you did.
(this castle was drawn by my friend Laszlo Borka. To see more of his work go to his site.)
