The World Stops When You Look Away

You look away, and the
Whole world disappears.
My soul laid bare, my
Hopes, my dreams my fears.
I reach for you, but you
Shrink from my embrace;
And now you want to
Vanish without trace.

...Upon a time I
Held you in my arms.
I kept you safe from
All the world’s great harms.
Now you look at me
With stranger’s eyes.
This is how the
Flame goes cold and dies.

I wonder why I
Cannot let you go.
I need you still, and
I need you to know:
I will remain stead-
Fast amidst my tears.
You look away, and the
Whole world disappears.

Thank you! I was happy with the meter of this one, the cadence. It's very slow and measured when I read it out loud or in my head.
